Fresh Off the Press

Dear Breeder,
We are happy to announce that as a world first; all Females at this year's sale will be GeneSTAR Tested for Feed Efficiency. This will be the first time in the world that an entire sale draft will be presented with DNA Markers for Feed Efficiency.

The latest addition to the GeneSTAR suite is GeneSTAR Feed Efficiency4. This new technology will help breeders identify animals that can produce more feed efficient progeny. GeneStar have also released a new Marbling4 marker, allowing animals to have 4 genes for each trait tested. When combined with the GeneSTAR Tenderness markers, allows superior lines of animals to be identified for your selection.

As this new technology has just been released we will have the tests available to you a few days before Sale Day. They will be posted on our web site as soon as they become available, or they can be faxed to you if you contact Tara on 0260208652 or fax 0260208352. All test results will be also available on the day of the sale.

Due a printing error many of you may have received a catalogue without the centre pages of colour photos. We apologise for any inconvenience and enclose the images for you to put with your catalogue.

Look forward to seeing you all at the sale.

After more than 20 years of Stud and Commercial breeding we have bred a type of Simmental ideally suited to a wide range of markets. Our commercial operation has demanded our genetics be able to produce the type of Simmental that meets today’s market requirements and specifications, especially in the areas of fat depth, cover and muscle

These genetics we now make available to you.

Calving ease and temperament has been a major selection tool in our breeding. Additionally we have concentrated on moderate framed, well muscled cattle that have softness and doing ability. We have also GeneSTAR tested every animal in the sale to help in your selection.

The continued commercial success of our cattle has maintained a strong demand for our bulls throughout the history of the stud and has been backed up with numerous commercial successes.

Of Note;
2000 - Albury Grass-Fed Trial; Five out of the top six were Simmental infused steers, four being sired by Brewer Simmental bulls. We also achieved highest yielding carcase.
2000 & 2001 - Winner of the National Simbeef Steer Competition.
2001 - Bred 3 of the highest weight gaining steers at Melb Royal.

Strong QLD support for Brewer Simmentals

Report Ben Simpson

David and Tara brewer of Brewer Simmentals with Martin Rowlands who purchased

The use of some of Australia 's leading bovine genetic technology, contributed to a strong demand for bulls at the Brewer Simmental Autumn Bull Sale on Thursday 16 th of March 2006 with bulls going to NSW, QLD SA and VIC.

34 Gene STAR tested bulls were offered on the day with 20 lots sold to a top of $7,250,00 and averaging $3,083.00. The sale was opened by Martin Rowlands from Genetic Solutions who announced the release of further genetic markers for both Tenderness and Marbling.

“As a result of over $3 million of commitment to research & development we excited about these new genetic markers for Tenderness and Marbling as it assists seed stock producers like the Brewers to further assist their commercial clients achieve their market goals.” Said Martin.

All bulls offered at the sale had markers for either tenderness or marbling with the majority testing positive for both and this provided strong demand from Queensland buyers.

The top priced bull, Lot 4 Brewers Lucky Dice Z478, a black polled registered Simmental bull, sold for $7,250 to “Daracourt” Station in Queensland . He was bought for his overall structural correctness, thickness and the fact that he had 7 STARS for Tenderness.

The second top priced bull was a commercial Simmental who went to “Red Range Station” in Wandon QLD for $6,500.00. This bull held 7 STARS for tenderness and 1 for marbling, which makes his one of the first bulls in the world to hold 8 GeneSTAR markers.

“We were very happy with the result,” said David Brewer the owner. “We had many repeat buyers as well as new buyers on the day and I think people are starting to appreciate the value of buying bulls that have been DNA tested as they can give more information to feed lots with their steers whilst improving the meat quality of their breeding herd.”

David also announced that this will be the last of the Brewers Autumn bull sales. “We will be offering a larger offering of straight Red and Black as well as traditional bulls and females in our Spring Sale in October.”

McCarthy Catholic College

Dear Judy and David,

On behalf of McCarthy Catholic College I wish to wish to express the immense gratitude felt by myself , my show team students and the entire school community for the donation of the gorgeous heifer "Brewer's Heidi'.

The school, our principal, Mr Paul McDougall and  especially the show team are overwhelmed by the generosity you have chosen to extend towards us. Heidi is a beautiful heifer whom the students adore already and who will provide the students with many opportunities to learn about the cattle industry, breeding and showing in the future.

Please accept my apologises  for the delay in writing this letter. Initially I was waiting for an opportunity to take some photo's of  Heidi with several of the show team members to include with this letter.

Due to rain and the holidays this task was delayed.  I have now taken the photos and have included the best of these. Heidi endured the grooming and scrubbing very well. The students are ecstatic that they finally have a beautiful animal that they can show and then bring home with them again, unlike the hoof and hook animals McCarthy Catholic College normally raises.

Heidi has settled into her new home and has already selected the students she likes best! The McCarthy show team was invited to include Heidi in the heifer group for the Zone 16 Junior Judging Finals on Saturday the 30 July. She paraded very well and the over judge Chris knox placed her first in the class.

Her first real heifer class will be the Quirindi Show Heifer Classic and Simmental Junior female class in September. I shall endeavour to keep you informed of her progress and hopefully her success. The show team are also hoping to have the opportunity to show her at the Royal Easter Show 2006 which will be very exciting and  a great learning experience for the students.

On behalf of the McCarthy catholic College Show Team a huge thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity and be assured that we will take the best  possible care of Heidi.

Yours sincerely

Leanne Sjollema
Agriculture Coordinator
